I’m very excited to introduce you to the latest addition to my Etsy shop: The Adult Biker Knee Patch Pattern. It’s inspiration comes from the technical protective knee padding found in motorcycle gear. Over the past few years, the biker patch look has made it’s way into the mainstream as a stylish detail on jeans and casual pants. The Biker Knee Patch is the perfect addition to not only repair an old pair of jeans, but to give it a designer customized look.
Customizing and adding style to well loved jeans
The very first pair of higher end jeans I purchased five years ago were getting far too worn out at the knees to be deemed wearable. Instead of sending them off to the landfill, I decided to take this opportunity to develop the adult version of the Biker Knee Patch whitch I had previously developed for kids. The result has been a stylishly renewed pair of jeans which have more value to me than any new pair I would have bought.
The perfect basic patch for all body types
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that Modern Mending Patterns are graded to fit all shapes and sizes. As you will see on the table below, I have developed a simple way of figuring out which pattern works best for your jeans by using the width of the knee measurement. This means that regardless of your gender, dress size or the style of jeans you own, the Biker Knee Patch will work on all your jeans. This makes the pattern and tutorial a valuable investment that will last for years to come.
Ideal project for the beginner sewist
The Adult Biker Knee Patch comes with a detailed step-by step tutorial so it’s perfect if you are new to sewing. For your viewing pleasure, each step is hand illustrated as shown in the supplies illustration below. Although it’s easiest to sew the patch with a sewing machine, you can easily sew the pieces by hand using the backstitch.
Re-purpose old fabric into patches
The Adult Biker Knee Patch is the perfect way to re-purpose fabric from old jeans that you may have turned into shorts or are no longer wearable. There are always areas of the clothes that can be used to cut the pieces of the patch. The picture below shows how I used cargo fabric which was leftover after I had cut my son’s jeans into shorts. I used the leftover fabric to repair a worn pair of jeans by using the Kids version of the Biker Knee Patch. Click the link here to read the tutorial on how to re-purpose cutoffs into patches.
I really love how this patch has turned out. I often wear these jeans with an oversized sweater & booties or knee high boots. Depending on the color of the fabric you choose for the patch, the Biker Knee Patch can blend seamlessly into the design of your jeans or become a featured detail.
Now that you know how pretty and modern your favorite old jeans can look with a bit of love, download the Adult Biker Knee Patch or browse through the other patch designs in my shop so you too can make your loved clothes last.
Happy Mending!
Great news. Just what I’ve been looking for the bikers in my family.
Will definitely be ordering the patterns.
I’m sure they will greatly appreciate it 🙂
