A few seasons ago, I found this cute pair of Citizen of Humanity jeans in my local second hand shop, however I wasn’t a fan of the giant holes at the knees. I figured they would be the ideal jeans to test out a new patch design that I have developed with the intention that they could work on loose fitting jeans. In the following blog post, I will show you a step by step tutorial on how to sew a knee patch by hand over a large hole by using this floral patch.
How To Fix A Hole In A Sweater
It’s wonderful to see visible mending gaining so much popularity as an option to make our loved clothes last longer. There are situations however, when mending holes with only a needle and threat is not enough. My husband’s sweater is the perfect example where just at the bottom of his sleeve, the knit was so threadbare in one area that it required the intervention of a patch. Here is the steb-by-step tutorial on how to fix a hole or a large worn area in a sweater by adding a home made patch.
How To Fix A Sweater Using Lace Appliqué

I think it’s a fact that stretch jeans are here to stay for a while. Although they are very comfortable to wear, a common problem I have found is that the waist is often too loose. Here’s a tutorial to show you the quickest way I have found to take in the waist of jeans.

How To Turn Jeans Into Shorts
Now that summer is in full bloom, I’ve slowly been putting away the winter clothes until the next season (I know, midsummer is well past spring cleaning!). I find it’s a good time to take stock of what is still wearable, what needs to be repaired or patched and see which well loved pants can be turned into shorts if I they are unlikely to survive another winter. As I’m getting ready to cut these H&M twill pants for my son, I thought I’d take the opportunity to write a tutorial on how I turn jeans (or pants) into shorts.
How To Fix A Hole Or Tear In Jeans
So a few weeks ago I pulled out my favorite pair of dark denim jeans and noticed that two holes had mysteriously appeared in the crotch area… In all fairness, I have been wearing these jeans for at least 4 years a few times a week so I guess it’s inevitable that they would get worn out. How To Fix Jeans With Invisible Mending Technique
Seven years ago I purchased for the very first time, a pair of jeans that cost over $200. Ouch. Where I live, we have this lovely boutique that carries independent brands which are for the most part either locally and/or ethically made. So after many months of dreaming, I gifted myself a pair of Hudson Jeans for my Birthday. Bless the honest owner of this shop, she warned me that light colored denim did tend to wear more quickly than dark. The bleaching used to wash out the color, does have the unfortunate side effect of weakening the fiber. But regardless, I was in love with the jeans and decided that when the time came that they wore out, I would fix them so my investment lasted longer. Here we are, seven years later and my crotch and the back of the jeans are wearing way too thinly for me to safely go out with them in public.

Mending Clothes In The Modern Era
I’m excited to share with you the brainchild I have been working on for the past year now. Although, if I think about it, it’s been a work in progress for the better part of my adult life. Even more so, during my parenting years (inset proud mama of 3), which has spanned over a decade already. But before we talk about this little project, I need to make a confession.
